Job Description

Position Summary:
FarrWest Specialty Vehicles is seeking a skilled UTV Side-by-Side Vehicle Technician to join our team. This role involves the assembly and customization of highly specialized all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) designed for emergency responders in EMS and Wildland Fire applications. The technician will be responsible for outfitting and modifying the UTVs with accessories, 12V lighting systems, and other emergency response equipment. This position does not include engine or mechanical repair work but requires expertise in vehicle customization and accessory installation.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Build and modify UTVs to meet the unique requirements of emergency response teams.
  • Install and integrate UTV accessories, including winches, skid plates, roof racks, and cargo systems.
  • Wire and install 12V lighting systems, including emergency strobes, floodlights, and sirens.
  • Modify and fabricate UTV components as needed to accommodate specialized equipment.
  • Perform make-ready (PDI) inspections for UTVs received from the manufacturer to ensure they meet quality and safety standards before customization.
  • Ensure all vehicle modifications meet the highest quality and safety standards.


Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience working with and modifying UTVs, including installation of aftermarket accessories.
  • Strong understanding of 12V electrical systems and ability to wire and troubleshoot lighting and auxiliary power systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with emergency response vehicle requirements and industry standards is a plus.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Communicate with the Production Manager and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the company, adapting to new technologies and vehicle modifications.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude while working in a fast-paced environment.


Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience working on UTVs or side-by-side vehicles.
  • Knowledge of UTV accessory installation and customization.
  • Proficiency in 12V wiring and lighting installation.
  • Ability to perform PDI and make-ready tasks for new UTVs.
  • Must have own tools required for the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, squat, kneel, stoop, bend, lay down, twist, climb, stand, and sit for extended periods to install equipment in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Willingness to work full-time and overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Reliable attendance and promptness.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in emergency response vehicle upfitting or customization.
  • Familiarity with Wildland Fire and EMS vehicle requirements.
  • Metal fabrication skills are a plus but not required.


Work Environment:
This is a hands-on position in a shop environment requiring physical labor. The role involves working with power tools, electrical components, and vehicle modification equipment.
